The story behind the Chic Twelve Zodiac - Ox paintwork:
My first impression of the Ox's sculpture was one of grandeur. Its posture exuded a strong "Ox Boss" vibe. With a pipe in hand, a robust physique, and a stance that asserted its authority, it was clear that this Ox had some serious financial backing. The neat back-combed hair, coupled with a short ponytail hairstyle, added an extraordinary artistic touch to its overall wealth. I concluded that the "Ox Boss" was no ordinary tycoon.
To convey the Ox Boss's grandeur without being ostentatious, I opted for a pink color palette—a shade I personally believe only a relatively robust man could pull off. This was complemented by a white shirt and a black vest, creating an air of success. The understated black leather shoes balanced the color palette and grounded the Ox Boss's sturdy and imposing figure. The Ox Boss's head sculpture was the highlight of this paintwork. I referenced many real photos and ultimately chose a brown and aged yellow ox color scheme to emphasize that only through hard work could one create their own brilliance (even though we're painting an Ox, we still need some motivational flavor). Capturing the texture of short ox fur was one of the challenges in this paintwork. Short fur requires patience to layer each stroke meticulously, making it look as natural as possible. Since I was working on a 3D model, aligning the brush strokes with the sculpture's curves required careful observation and design. I used a light gold color for the hair and mane, creating a realistic visual effect through multiple layers of color. The eyes were given a translucent appearance with a thin green cover, ensuring the Ox Boss didn't appear too fierce.
In terms of accessories, thanks to the excellent craftsmanship of prototype artist Wang Wu, painting the pipe was a smooth process. I hand-painted wood grain on its smooth surface, adding a touch of ember-burning paint effect.
And there you have it, the paintwork of the Ox Boss, who reached the pinnacle of life through hard work.
A big thanks to prototype artist Wu Wang for his exceptional skills, which gave me the opportunity to work on this outstanding contemporary Chinese style original piece! I hope you all like the Ox Boss!
